My name is Pearce Wurthner-Labrecque.  I was born in Los Angeles, California but moved to Asheville, North Carolina at the age of 5.  Asheville is all I remember and all I consider home.  In the southern Appalachian Mountains fly fishing is an integral part of our culture and heritage.  Intertwined with this pastime is the brook trout: North Carolina’s only native trout species.  During my senior year of high school and the subsequent summer I interned at Hunter Banks, Asheville’s premiere fly fishing shop.  During this time of my life fly fishing transformed from a hobby to a passion and I became somewhat of an environmentalist.  I realized that fishermen and hunters were the most effective activists because they were the most invested in conservation for their sport.  This is where my personal crusade for the brook trout began.
