There are many organizations and resources available to get involved if you want to.  Private organizations such as Trout Unlimited provide research, volunteer opportunities, and leadership positions perfect for “fattening” any resume. For over 50 years, Trout Unlimited has devoted all of its resources to forwarding its slogan: “Conserving, protecting and restoring North America’s cold water fisheries and their watersheds”  Join, contribute, or volunteer.  Do whatever you can whenever you can.  That’s all anyone could ever ask of you.

If you don’t have the time to contribute to an organization, consider your involvement in a forum where you can share your ideas and contribute in that manner.  I am a member of Blue Ridge Fly Fisherman’s Forum or BRFFF.  It is a tight-nit group of devoted fly fishermen where ideas are shared and good time is spent.

Yet another way to get involved is to simply support the fishing community.  Most experienced fly fishermen are aware of the harms of over-harvesting and have become actively involved in supporting catch-and-release for at-risk species.  The most amazing fly fishing media I have ever seen is created by Angling Exploration Group.  The team  is composed of a group of men that travel the world experiencing new cultures, peoples, and most importantly new trout waters.  A trailer for their Patagonia film can be viewed below.
